I might use this favourite old quote in speaking from Mark 8:34-38:

Jim Elliot was a missionary to Ecuador.

On 8^th January 1956, he, and his 4 fellow missionaries, were killed by 10 native warriors.

Years earlier, Eliott had written in his journal:

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose."
