God willing we are looking at Psalm 33 in our midweek meeting tomorrow (Wed 6th Jan). There is no need to prepare but these questions may spark some thoughts.
I may add to these notes but I have to reach up to a very high shelf to get my Psalm commentaries so I am bracing myself for the risk.
How are you feeling? What
do you feel like doing?
What does v1 suggest you
should feel / do? Why?
What reasons for praise
are given in the whole psalm?
What other responses to
God are suggested and why? What will this look like in practice for us? How can
we cultivate these responses?
Whom does the Psalm have
in view? What different / overlapping groups can you identify? What is the fate
/ role of each group according to the Psalm?
In what sense are we / are
we not “righteous” (v1)?
What do you think the role
of singing and music are? Why do they matter? (vv1-3)
Why use instruments / more
than one? (v2)
Why a new song? (v3) What
about? What might the old songs be about?
Why skilful playing? (v3)
Why shouting? (v3) Why is
this a comfort to the unmusical?!
What have you found
striking about the Psalm?
How could you sum it up?
How might the Psalm spark
prayer or praise?
