An A to Z of thanks and praise

An A to Z of Thanks and Praise

Inspired by Psalm 111, an acrostic poem of praise, we have been making an A to Z list of things we can thank or praise God for.

We wont make you guess who said what.

Since God made all things and all creation is good, we were happy to resort to naming something beginning with that letter if need be!

We’re sorry for any synonyms.

Adoption into God’s family / Acceptance / Animals / Aunties

Being itself / Baptism / Baptism in the Holy Spirit / Blessings

Calling / Chosen in Christ / Church / Cleaning / Confession

Deacons / Dedication / Defeat of death / Dairy Milk

Energy / Election / Eternity / Everlasting life

Freedom / Fellowship / Fun / Food (including fudge) / Friends

God himself / Grace / Games

Heaven / Hope / Helpful husbands

Imagination / Inspiration (of Scripture) / Identity in Christ / Ice cream (especially chocolate with sauce and sprinkles etc.)

Jesus / Jokes / Jelly

Kingdom of God / Knowledge

Laughter / Love

Me! Majesty of God / Magnitude of creation / Meringues / Mothers

Night / No condemnation

Other people / Omni-s of God (omnipresence, omnipotence, omniscience)

Prayer / places we love / privacy / peace / people / pancakes (Scotch and normal)

Quiet / quests / questions / quilts

Righteousness in Christ / Reasons for thanks and praise!

Singing and shouting / sunshine / salvation / security

Trust / Time / Tacos

Unexpected / Ubiquity of God / Understanding

Verses of the bible, hymns, poems we love

Way (Jesus the) / Walking with God

Xylophones and x-rays, of course

Yesterday / years of God’s faithfulness / yearnings (for the true, the good or the beautiful)

Zoology / Zoos / Zoom!

No doubt you could add / do better?! What are / could you be thanking / praising God for?

It would be great to try to come up with a list which is very personal to you, but one particular challenge might be to try to write a list which is totally independent of your circumstances (except for your circumstance in Christ, which is of course the main thing!). If, like Job, you had many things taken away from you, what could you still be thanking and praising God for? Is there an A to Z list for any Christian in any circumstances?

* * *

A friend also suggested an A-Z of attributes / characteristics of God (for which he could of course be praised!):

Awesome, bountiful, creator, death defeating, faithful, gracious, holy, infinite, just, kind, loving, majestic, never failing, omniscient, praiseworthy, (able to ) quicken, righteous, steadfast, trustworthy, upright, victorious, wise, (e)xtraordinary, Yahweh, zealous.
