Single issue politics

Just imagine for a moment that you believed that the unborn child is a person with rights. If there were one political candidate or party who promised to end abortion except where there is a real risk to the life of the mother, and that person or party stood a realistic chance of election, would that single issue not trump virtually any other today? Even if you violently disagreed with almost every other policy the person or party espoused, that single act could save around 185,122 lives a year in England and Wales.

And between 1 million and 1.5 million in the U S of A. But neither of the primary political parties on this side of the pond have any inclination to bring it to an end -- even at points when they hold the presidency and both houses of our congress.
