Mary Jones was a poor Welsh girl who lived from 1784 at the foot
of the Cader Idris mountain, in Gwynedd.
She’d learnt to read at the local school and she longed
for a Bible in her own language, but Welsh Bibles were expensive and hard to
come by.
For 6 years she saved up all her spare money.
And one morning, in 1800, aged 15, she walked barefoot the
25 miles to Bala in the hope of buying a Bible.
Perhaps Mary’s story might inspire us this week to walk
over to our bookshelves and dust off one of our Bibles and read it.
