(1) We have a superior High Priest
(a) He is
great (v14) – better than all the Old Testament priest and High Priests
(b) He has passed through the heavens (v14) – permanently
into heaven, not merely once a year into the Most Holy Place of the temple
(c) We have a human high priest (v14)
(2) We have a sympathetic high priest (v15)
(a) His ability to sympathise comes from his
humanity
(b) His ability to sympathise comes from his
experience – he suffered being tempted
(c) He is able to sympathise with us because of
his victory – his sinlessness, his continued endurance of temptation
(3) We have a sufficient High Priest
He gives us confidence to come boldly to the throne of grace to find
help in our time of need (v16)
