"they offered him wine mixed with myrrh"

In Mark 15v23 they offered Jesus wine mixed with myrrh, it seems as a painkiller, but he did not take it.

Back in 14v25 Jesus had told his disciples, “I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God.”

Some scholars suggest that the drug was used to stop people struggling as they are crucified.

Jesus isn’t going to struggle – he dies willingly.

Jesus is drinking the cup which the Father gives him, the cup of God’s wrath – 10:38; 14:36.

Jesus takes the full force of the judgement of God.

He faces the worst that evil can through at him.

And he’ll accept nothing to dull the pain.
