One of the most important things to grasp in reading the Bible is the parallels between some of its key events:
Adam and the Creation and the exile from the Garden
Israel, Moses and the Exodus - Israel as a new humaity, a new Adam
The Exile as a new Exodus and a New Creation
Jesus and The New Creation
And one could go on. Jesus the New Joshua. Adam / Israel / The King / Jesus as God's Son.
