Which may also be relevant for sermon prep.
(1) As soon as you reasonably can, pick a question and
brainstorm about it for 40 minutes. Write everything you know or can think of about
it. What are all the angles and issues? What do you want to investigate? Where
are the gaps in your knowledge or argument which you want to address?
This has at least two advantages:
(a) Get the issues in your head and you can ponder them as
you shower or walk. They may on their own percolate into good things.
(b) You may also happen upon relevant stuff anywhere – in the
paper, or library or internet
(2) Look into early how, where and when you will get the
relevant books and resources. I’m told there can be a scramble for these and it
is no good getting to a few days before the deadline and finding that
everything is on loan to some keen bean or otherwise unavailable.
