ORDER OF SERVICE

Before the service we’ll play the music to the hymn The God of Abraham Praise

Welcome, notices and introduction

Grace, mercy and peace
 from God our Father
 and the Lord Jesus Christ
 be with you
(and also with you.)

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3v1)

Opening Prayer

Let us return to the Lord our God and say to him:

Father,
We have sinned against heaven and against you.
We are not worthy to be called your children.
We turn to you again.
Have mercy on us,
Bring us back to yourself
As those who once were dead
But now have life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May the God of love bring you back to himself, forgive you your sins, and assure you of his eternal love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn: My hope is built on nothing less

 Bible readings

(We use the New International Version (NIV) 1984 in church. You can find the latest version of the NIV here: https://www.biblegateway.com/)

You might particularly like to have this passage open before you, perhaps keep a bookmark in it for the sermon:

Genesis 21vv1-21 (read by Peter)

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Galatians 4vv21-31 (read by Annabel)

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

 Sermon (preached by Jeremy)

 Affirmation of Faith

Let us declare our faith in God.

We believe in God the Father,
From whom every family
In heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son,
Who lives in our hearts through faith,
And fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
Who strengthens us
With power from on high.

We believe in one God;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

 Prayers

 Intercessions

 The Collect for the Second Sunday after Trinity

Lord, you have taught us
that all our doings without love are nothing worth:
send your Holy Spirit
and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love,
the true bond of peace and of all virtues,
without which whoever lives is counted dead before you.
Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ’s sake,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

 The Lord's Prayer

Gathering our prayers and praises into one,
let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
 hallowed be thy name;
 thy kingdom come;
 thy will be done;
 on earth as it is in heaven.
 Give us this day our daily bread.
 And forgive us our trespasses,
 as we forgive those who trespass against us.
 And lead us not into temptation;
 but deliver us from evil.
 For thine is the kingdom,
 the power, and the glory
 for ever and ever.
 Amen.

The Blessing

After the service we will play the hymns: By faith we see the hand of God
