Some Biblical scholars love to spot (or maybe invent!) a chiasm.
That is, they love to find a structure like:
A
B
A'
Or something more complicated like:
A
B
C
D
C'
B'
A'
Or variations on that theme.
I am relatively sympathetic to this endeavour.
I wonder if reality might be thought of as chiastic. It seems to go:
Creation
Christ
New Creation
And it can be a commonplace to say that birth and childhood can correspond to death and old age.
It is perhaps too much to think of the chiasm as showing us that reality is cross shaped, cross centred.
Since God is an infinite author, it seems relatively likely to me that the text of the Bible is rich and textured.
