In an interesting footnote, Hans Boersma notes that on Allen G. Jorgenson's view, Luther replaced the beatific vision with beatific hearing ('Martin Luther on Preaching Christ Present', IJST 16 (2014): 46).
However, Boersma says that many Calvinists including John Donne, Jonathan Edwards and Abraham Kuyper have "followed Augustine in treating vision as the noblest of the senses".
