Some jottings on Light for a church primary school assembly

“light” 232x in the Bible

What’s the opposite of light? [darkness]

Why do we need light? [to see (in the dark)]

[torch]

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” – the Bible guides us, shows us the way to go, how to live

What will happen to a plant if it gets no light? [it dies]
 Light is essential for life

1 John 1:5 “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”

2 meanings of darkness:

(1)     ignorance – “I’m totally in the dark about long multiplication”, I don’t understand it – opposite of knowledge and truth – cartoon light-bulb moment, enlightenment

(2)    Evil – opposite of purity and goodness, “It was a dark movie”, nasty, evil, “his heart was dark”, badness
Jesus calls himself the light of the world

“In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it…. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.” (John 1)
