It depends which one you get. Normally, Sat Nav units for cars are focussed on getting you from where you are now to a point somewhere else. They don't easily do things like "store the point I'm at currently for later, so I can upload it to my computer" or that sort of thing.
You can get units which are a combination of the two, but normally not with the big screens and fancy graphics of the TomTom ones. I have a Garmin eTrex Legend HCx, which is particularly cool because you can load the OpenStreetMap maps on to it, and it still does the Sat Nav bit using the OpenStreetMap data! But it will also keep track of where you've been and log that, and various other useful features. It's well loved in the OpenStreetMap community.
Ah, I think I would be hard pushed to persuade Mrs Lloyd of the need of anything but a pretty cheap basic devise - and she's not really sure about that!
I am a Bible believing Christian, husband to Mrs Lloyd, father to four children.
I am the Rector of Warbleton, Bodle Street Green & Dallington and Rural Dean of Dallington, Diocese of Chichester. I also edit the book reviews for The Global Anglican.

So Marc, will we see you with your GPS traipsing around adding postboxes to OpenStreetMap, as an act of public service? :-)
(I did all of N14 in my lunchbreaks during revision week at Oak Hill.)

I do keep telling Mrs Lloyd we need Sat Nav. Could I use that?
