Camp Themes

I run a Christian summer camp for 11-14 year olds. Each year we have a theme which is intended to add a bit of fun and creativity into the proceedings.

This year its spies.

Some previous years / other ideas include:

The Wild Wild West

Under the Sea

In the jungle / animals

Olympics / sports

Around the world in 8 days

Music

Musicals

Movies

Fairy tales

Superheros

Any other suggestions?

If we were really organised, we might have a 4 year plan that was repeated and honed, but it might get a bit dull for some of the old-hand leaders who love a new challenge!

Thank you. Great ideas. Well, except for Ninjas and Ninja Pirates.

We did Christmas - or rather the Christmas Season e.g. Xmas eve, Xmas day, boxing day, New Year etc. very succsesfully last year. Lots of fun having Xmas dinner in height of summer etc.

I wonder if you could do a year in a week too e.g. include Easter, Summer Holidays, April Fools Day, Autumn, or whatever.

We've never tied the theme to the teaching but its an idea.

PS. Do you do a camp Mr Huxley? :)

oh yes, we've also done Medieval (sp?) Merriment which was great fun.

We haven't tied theme to teaching either ... somehow it seems both complicated and too easy to compromise either the wackiness of the theme or the integrity of the teaching. But that may be my limitations more than anything.

I was a regular as a kid/teen and then was a leader for two years at Ellesmere 1 which turned into Barnstaple 1 and is now something else.

The theme was always tied into teaching which limited wackiness.

Some themes included 'Deckchairs on the Titanic' and 'Maximum Security'. The last night party would take on a different theme, the best of which was Christmas.

Ah, so, Paul are you currently looking for a camp? We can provide wonderful opportunities on your doorstep?!

Where to Ninja Pirates come in the Bible?

Tim, I tend to agree.

One of our team suggested Mountains (of the Bible) as the Bible teaching series this year which initially I thought was a dreadful idea but I must admit in my crazier moments its grown on me (e.g. Eden, Sinai, Sermon on the Mount, Transfiguration, Calvary, etc. etc.). That could maybe be a theme.

mmm..... lots of good gags and funny costumes to be had with 'mountians' then... (???)

Have you heard that theres a new mountain website?

Really?

I must take a peak at it!

an avalanche of humour...

theme for each day could be
: skiing/mountain biking/climbing/hand gliding (jumping off mountains)...

I can see this would be just up your street Marc... ;)

I'm pretty sure ninja pirates live up mountains. I don't know if that helps at all...

As for Danehill, I'll have a good consider with my wife.

Tim, boom boom.

I had in mind Alpine yodelling.

Paul, I think we'd be talking 2010 now at this late stage. But we'd love to have you both - and any other Bible believing Christians known to you. Bring the kids if one of you is willing to look after them etc.
