Some words from the letter
to the Romans:
Now is the time to wake out
of sleep, for our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
The night is far spent,
the day is at hand:
Let us therefore cast off
the works of darkness and let us put on the armour of light.
(Romans 13:11-12)
When the Lord comes, he
will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness, and will disclose the
purposes of the heart.
Therefore in the light of
Christ let us confess our sins.
(cf. 1 Corinthians 4:5)
Turn to us again, O God our
Saviour, and let your anger cease from us:
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Show us your compassion, O
Lord, and grant us your salvation:
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Your salvation is near for
those that fear you, that glory may dwell in our land:
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
May God who loved the world
so much that he sent his Son to be our Saviour forgive you your sins and make
you holy to serve him in the world, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn: Faithful One, so
unchanging
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the
dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Intercessions
The Collect for the First
Sunday of Advent
Almighty God,
give us grace to cast away the works of darkness
and to put on the armour of light,
now in the time of this mortal life,
in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great
humility;
that on the last day,
when he shall come again in his glorious majesty
to judge the living and the dead,
we may rise to the life immortal;
through him who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Gathering our prayers and praises into one,
let us
pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory
for ever and ever.
Amen.
The Blessing
Christ the Sun of Righteousness
shine upon you,
Scatter the darkness from
before your path,
And make you ready to meet
him when he comes in glory;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
Amen.
(After the service we’ll
play the hymn Love Divine. You can find the words here: https://hymnary.org/text/love_divine_all_love_excelling_joy_of_he)
